Skeleton Crew has arrived! Is it a new hope for the franchise? Or is it another DOA show! There’s only one way to find out!
SPOILER WARNING! The following contains slight spoilers for Skeleton Crew Episodes 1 and 2! Do not proceed if you wish to avoid spoilers!
MAJOR POINTS
- This very much feels like Goonies In Space
- This suburban planet is cut off from the rest of the galaxy
As we saw in the trailers, the kids uncover a mysterious spacecraft buried within a forest. They soon find themselves flung far out in space and at the mercy of several space pirates.
It looks like Jude Law’s character Jod Na Nawood was the masked pirate leader we see at the beginning of the first episode. Whether he is a real Jedi or a phony remains to be seen. But it’s a pretty safe bet that the final act will see the pirates find the planet At Attin to plunder all its riches.
MAJOR QUESTIONS
- Why is At Attin cut off from the rest of the galaxy. It’s clear the concept of space travel is there
- How far out from the rest of the galaxy are they? Could this be a situation similar to Kamino where they are not on a galactic map?
FINAL GRADE: A-
Many Star Wars fans, myself included, have lost faith in the brand in recent years. While I still will defend things like The Mandalorian Season 3 and Ahsoka, other things like Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Book Of Boba Fett fell short of expectations. This absolutely met my expectations. I was expecting Goonies in space and that’s exactly what I got. If I was 12 years old, this show would be my new best thing ever. It feels like a kid’s show and that’s great because that’s exactly what it is. Star Wars has been largely aimed at kids in the first place.
