After 40 years, Cold Slither is BACK!

The 1980s had a long history of pop culture fads. Those fads were often used as plot points in TV shows, especially in cartoons and animated series. The greatest example of this is arguably the cult-favorite GI Joe episode “Cold Slither”.

Gen-Xers may remember the controversy of hidden messages allegedly buried within heavy metal music. Some claimed these hidden messages influenced kids and young people. GI Joe TV writer Michael Charles Hill used this concept to craft the ‘Cold Slither’ episode.

Originally aired in December of 1985, this episode has since become a cult favorite. In ‘Cold Slither’, Zartan and his Dreadnoks form a rock band with the same name. Their goal? Use their self-titled song to brainwash listeners into joining Cobra, the infamous enemy organization in the GI Joe series.

Fast forward 40 years, and Cold Slither is back! Hasbro has announced they are releasing a full album under the Cold Slither name. Excitingly, the first single, a remake of the original song, is already available on their official website.

So, whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the world of GI Joe, now is the perfect time to dive back into the legacy of Cold Slither. Keep an eye out for the full album and enjoy a piece of pop culture history.
