What If…? presents standalone stories depicting the Marvel Cinematic Universe if something else happened in the established canon than what was depicted in the films. The first episode shows what would have happened if the super-soldier experiment on Steve Rogers failed and he never became Captain America. Peggy Carter takes his place instead and becomes Captain Carter.
