The CW’s “Flarrowverse” four part crossover has officially been given a name. DC Comics officially released the event’s name, Crisis On Earth X. While this conjurs up thoughts of past “Crisis” titles in DC’s history, this does look to be a more original title.

It has also been revealed that The Ray will play a major part in the story, and fans got their first glimpse of The Ray and Earth X in the preview for Freedom Fighters: The Ray.

In Marvel news, Netflix has released the initial trailer for the upcoming Punisher series, and it looks like it could be the best live-action Punisher yet.

In older but still fun Star Wars news, Seth and special guest Clint discuss JJ Abrams officially taking over Episode IX.

In the final two segments, Clint talks playing Destiny 2, while Seth reviews the first two issues of DC’s Dark Nights: Metal

Geekville Radio 181: Disney vs. Netflix

Disney has a much publicized split with Netflix, as Disney plans on starting their own streaming service in 2019. Disney had the following to say in their own press release.

“The new Disney-branded service will become the exclusive home in the U.S. for subscription-video-on-demand viewing of the newest live action and animated movies from Disney and Pixar, beginning with the 2019 theatrical slate, which includes Toy Story 4, the sequel to Frozen, and The Lion King from Disney live-action, along with other highly anticipated movies. Disney will also make a significant investment in an annual slate of original movies, TV shows, short-form content and other Disney-branded exclusives for the service. Additionally, the service will feature a vast collection of library content, including Disney and Pixar movies and Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney XD television programming.”

The Marvel Netflix shows (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, etc…) are still safe on Netflix. But what does this mean for Star Wars movies? the Marvel MCU?

In Deadpool news, we got our first glimpse of Josh Brolin as Cable, and Zazie Beets as Domino. What are the initial reactions?

The middle portion of the show looks at the Flarrowverse and the much anticipated four-way crossover between Supergirl, Arrow, Flash, and Legends Of Tomorrow. CW president Mark Pedotiz had this to say about the premise of the mega event.

“I do not want to give it away, I don’t want to give any spoiler alerts but let me just say, romance is in the air.”

So what does this mean? Are Barry and Iris finally tying the not? Ollicity reborn? Alex and Maggie? With all the ‘ships in the Flarrowverse this could be just one big CW Prom Night that could double as the Musical Episode.

In Arrow news, Marc Guggenheim has revealed they have plans for a Season 7 already.

“We’ve already started talking about ooh, we have a shape for season seven already.  This is the earliest we’ve ever had an idea for a season that far ahead, but it’s come out of our conversations about season six.”

“I think we’ve always had an endpoint in mind.  We’ve always known how we want to end the show. That end point doesn’t require X number of seasons. If we had to, we could work towards it as long as we knew with enough leeway, we could work towards the moment we’ve been talking about since day one.”

At the end of the article

“Certainly the whole idea behind the cliffhanger is that there are consequences to the explosions on the island that affect Oliver and affect the surviving members of his team,” Gugenheim said. “Spoiler alert, we didn’t kill off everyone except for Oliver and one person. He still will have a team. The question is what is the composition of that team and how are they all affected by the trauma of what happened at the end of last year. For us, it’s more than a binary thing of who lives and who dies. There are consequences that we’re also playing around with as a result.”

It’s also confirmed that Tom Felton will be leaving in Season 4 of Flash, but Hartley Sawyer will be joining the cast

Lots of news on Legends of Tomorrow Season 3. We’re getting Gorilla Grodd back, and more info on Damien Darkh. Plus hints that this will be a much mor mystical and magic oriented season. Ummm, Constantine anyone?

Judge Dredd fans may rejoice, as Karl Urban has confirmed talks with the producers of Mega City One, the Dredd TV show in pre-production

Finally, Seth and Train pay tribute to the memory of the late great Glen Campbell. How does Glen Campbell fit in with geekery? Well, you’ll understand if you’ve seen Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2.

Geekville Radio: Spider-Man & Justice League Trailers, Heroes & Villains FanFest

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Sony unveiled the second Spider-Man trailer. This new trailer gives us more of a look at the plot, plus a peek at the role Tony Stark plays in Spidey’s life. Not only that wee see more of Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes aka The Vulture.

Not to be outdone, Warner Bros released the newest Justice League trailers which gives us Aquaman, Parademons, and Commissioner Gordon

In Netflix news, Iron Fist has become the second most watched Marvel Netflix to date. Only Luke Cage has more impressions.

“The analytics firm calculates the series earned 63.2 million ‘demand expressions’ in its first three days – that’s less than the 69 million of “Luke Cage” but ahead of both “Jessica Jones” (51m) and “Daredevil” (23m).”

In Star Wars news, the Last Jedi trailer will be released on April 14th, during Star Wars Celebration. Also, in what may be a major curve ball to fans, Han Solo’s real name may not be Han Solo.

“Iger revealed that the film, “picks up with Han Solo when he was 18 years old and takes him through when he was 24. There are a few significant things that happen in Han Solo’s life, like acquiring a certain vehicle and meeting a certain Wookiee that will happen in this film. But you will also discover how he got his name.””

Over in the Arrowverse, Season 5 villain Vigilante’s alter ego is somebody we already know. However, we may not find out who he (she?) is until Season 6.

We know who it is, but we were kind of intrigued by the idea of having a mystery that led into the next season,” Guggenheim told us at Paleyfest 2017. “We were excited at the prospect of just letting this play out for a little while longer, and it gives us something cool to do in Season 6.”

The second half of the show, Seth and Crazy Train talk more major plot reveals in the Arrowverse TV Shows, including the highly anticipated Supergirl/Flash Musical, the return of Captain Cold to Legends Of Tommorow, and Prometheus’s effect on Ollie’s psyche.

Geekville Radio: Super Bowl Commercials And More

The biggest sporting event of the year is in the history books, as are the many commercials that air specifically during the game. Seth and Crazy Train go over five trailers in particular that caught their eye, all listed here for your convenience.

Logan

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2

Stranger Things 2

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Transformers: The Last Knight

In TV News, The Arrowverse may be getting bigger as CW is reportedly in talks for a Black Lightning show produced by Greg Berlanti.

“This is a swift turnaround for the project, which was shopped to other networks by Warner Bros. TV immediately after Fox opted not to go to pilot, with the CW emerging as the likely new home. I hear Fox brass ultimately decided that the superhero show was not a good fit into its already crowded genre drama space that includes the DC/WBTV series Gotham and Lucifer, Seth MacFarlane’s upcoming space dramedy, and two pilots: the X-Men-themed drama written by Matt Nix and The Passage; all are from 20th TV.”

Also on CW and produced by Berlanti, Riverdale had debuted and is pulling decent numbers.

On the review front, Seth and Train review the NBC sitcom Powerless with differing views. The show had modest numbers, so will it stick around? Especially since the show we got is not the show originally filmed.

“Unlike the episode that aired last night, this version of Powerless was undeniably cute. The story focused on a group of insurance agents who sincerely wanted nothing more than to help troubled people — the result of living in a city where superheroes run rampant and cause unquantifiable levels of damage — get the money they deserve. The team dynamic was apparent, and the group of genuine, caring coworkers was juxtaposed against their new boss, a typical comic book villain who only cares about getting rich, making for a promising setting.”

Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD is back, and once again has hit the ground running. While numbers seem OK, the reception has been very good, averaging 8.5 out of 10 on IMDB. How has the LMD story played out so far? And has Jeffrey Mace won over Train and Seth with his backstory?

In the final segment, Train talks about Marvel’s diversity movement, and what it does for longtime fans. It’s a thought provoking discussion we’d like to hear your thoughts on.

Geekville Radio: X-Men TV Show, Return Of The Arrowverse, RIP John Hurt

It’s a news packed week at The Geekville Radio Studio. Seth and Crazy Train are back to cover the major stories, as well as the return of the Arrowverse to TV.

First up, Fox has ordered a X-Men TV series that will be in continuity with the movie franchise, much like Disney has with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not only that, Bryan Singer himself has been tapped to direct the pilot episode.

“The still untitled X-Men TV series will focus on two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive. The series will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television, with 20th Century Fox handling physical production.”

However, the series will not coincide with FX’s Legion TV series.

Speaking of Legion, Hollywood Reporter sums up their review of the show as “Lock yourself in a rubber room and binge”.

In DC News, Deadline reports that Ben Affleck will not be directing his standalone Batman film after all. Affleck cites the double duty being too great to allow the best of both worlds.

“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions. Performing this role demands focus, passion and the very best performance I can give. It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require. Together with the studio, I have decided to find a partner in a director who will collaborate with me on this massive film. I am still in this, and we are making it, but we are currently looking for a director. I remain extremely committed to this project, and look forward to bringing this to life for fans around the world.”

Over in the Doctor Who universe, Peter Capaldi confirmed that Series 10 of the revived show will be his last.

The middle part of the show reviews the mid-season return of the entire “Arrowverse”. Supergirl, Flash, Legends Of Tomorrow, and Arrow all made their premieres last week, and all four shows hit the ground running. Hear thoughts on Kevin Smith’s Supergirl directorial debut, Flash’s next chapter about changing the future, Legends Of Tomorrow with George Lucas, and the reveal of Laurel and Talia in Arrow.

In the final segment of the show, Seth and Train pay tribute to the legendary actor Sir John Hurt. The resume this man had fills just about any element of Geekery you could imagine.

Geekville Radio: 2017 TV Preview

In the news, Woody Harrelson is in talks to play a mentor to Alden Ehrenreich’s young Han Solo in the as yet untitled anthology film. Is this a fitting cast? And what can we expect from a Han and Lando team-up?

Also Star Wars related, Princess/General Leia Organa was supposed to have a larger role in Episode IX. Now producers are meeting to decide what should be done with the character. Could we see a recast? A CGI motion capture a la Grand Moff Tarkin?

In TV News, all four DC “Arrowverse” shows have been renewed by CW. On top of that, Constantine has been picked up as an animated series for CW Seed. Can Matt Ryan’s incarnation of the character survive in animated form?

To cap off the news, the villain for the Flash/Supergirl musical crossover has been revealed to be Music Meister. Could we see Neil Patrick Harris return to the role in a live action capacity?

The second half of the show is our semi-annual look at 2017 TV. Crazy Train joins Seth to preview seven new TV shows debuting in the next few months.
