Marvel Studios released the first trailer for Captain America: Brave New World. Not only is it the first film with Anthony Mackie in the title role, but it is also the first with Harrison Ford as Thunderbolt Ross.
The plot involves newly-elected President Ross (Harrison Ford, taking over the role from the late William Hurt) wanting Captain America (Anthony Mackie in his first big-screen outing as Cap) to be an official agent of the US military. At some point afterward, Isaiah Bradley tries to assassinate President Ross, which thrusts the new Captain America into the fray to defend the good ol’ U.S. of A.
So what does this all mean?
We know that President Ross wants Captain America to be a full-fledged agent of the US Military and that Sam doesn’t want to do this. However, Isaiah Bradley’s attempt to assassinate the President certainly puts Sam in a weird position. Why? Sam met Isaiah in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier TV series a few years back and learned he was also a Super Soldier serum volunteer, just like Steve Rogers.
In short, this means Sam’s predecessor and mentor is part of a plot to kill the President of the United States.
Bradley was likely brainwashed into doing this. After all, Bucky was brainwashed into becoming The Winter Soldier. So it’s reasonable that similar means were used on Isaiah.
Of course, we’ll probably have a climactic battle in the final act against The Red Hulk.
Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters on Valentine’s Day February 14, 2025.
