Examining the Deadpool & Wolverine Trailer

New and unimproved for The MCU, Deadpool!

We FINALLY got a trailer for the third Deadpool movie Deadpool & Wolverine during some sports event over the weekend. So, like any other geek site starved for clicks, we’re going to dive in and see what we can analyze and get angry over if we turn out to be wrong…

The trailer opens with a montage of Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, at his birthday party with his friends and family from the previous two movies. This establishes that he is still in the universe established in the X-Men films over the last 20 years. After getting pruned by The TVA, he is then presumably sent into other variant timelines to save them, or possibly even save the sacred timeline. Add in cameos from these variant timelines, and you get what looks to be a fun retcon that will likely set the stage for Phases Five and Six in The MCU.

Deadpool approaches a mysterious man in a white suit. Who is this suited man? Well, if you know the comics, it’s probably Patch, an alternate identity of Wolverine! More on that in the next Geekville Radio episode!

**Here we see a destroyed 20th Century Fox logo, which likely means Deadpool will find himself in The Void, which we also saw during the first season of *Loki*.**

So what does this all mean?

We’ve known for a while that Wolverine was going to play a substantial part in this film, given that leaked photos showed the two together on set. Now it looks like we may be getting more than one version of Logan to boot.

It looks like The TVA will recruit Deadpool to clean up other timelines. They even say that he is “special”. This could be a nod to his mutant healing abilities but it could also be a reference to his ability to break the fourth wall and see that he is a character in a film franchise. After all, he did kill his own variant from X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

This also means we’ll hopefully see some other easter eggs and gags from other past X-Men movies. Deadpool could wind up doing his own version of Engame by going back and changing other timelines. He might even make some Back to the Future II references along the way.

Could these other movie variants be stuck in The Void like so many other variants in the Loki series? Or could things not be going well and Deadpool gets tossed into The Void where he has to find a way out on his own? Looks like we will find out on July 26th when the only MCU movie of 2024 hits theaters!
