Holy murder mysteries, Batman is dead! At least he appears to be in the premise for the latest DC Comics-themed TV series for The CW, Gotham Knights.
Deadline reports Natalie Abrams, Chad Fiveash, and James Patrick Stoteraux are developing a TV series that centers around members of the Bat-Family trying to solve the murder of The Caped Crusader. All three have worked on The CW’s Batwoman as well as other TV projects based on DC Comics properties.
“In the wake of Bruce Wayne’s murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader. And as the city’s most wanted criminals, this renegade band of misfits must fight to clear their names. But in a Gotham with no Dark Knight to protect it, the city descends into the most dangerous it’s ever been.”

This marks at least a dozen DC-based TV series produced by Berlanti Productions. Several of those series have a shared continuity that has been dubbed “The Flarrowverse” by some fans. That continuity started with the 2012 series Arrow and has gone on to include The Flash, DC’s Legend of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, and the aforementioned Batwoman. It remains to be seen whether Gotham Knights will be a part of that continuity.
DC comics previously published a title called Batman: Gotham Knights which centered around the exploits of the Bat-Family members such as Robin, Batgirl, and Catwoman. WB Games Montreal is currently developing a video game also called Gotham Knights which has a very similar premise. There has been no official confirmation as to whether the series will be a direct adaption of the comic or the game.
While no release has been announced, it’s safe to assume we will not see Gotham Knights until at least the 2022-2023 season.
