While the latest MCU series might not be the most popular compared to earlier entries, Hawkeye has still been a very entertaining show. This fourth episode starts the latter half of its first season.
WARNING: SPOILERS AHOY! Do not proceed if you wish to avoid spoilers!
MAJOR POINTS
- Hawkeye has found the connection between Jack and the Tracksuit Mafia
- Kate knows Clint was the Ronin
- Yelena Belova made her first appearance
It turns out not only was Jack at home, but Eleanor was as well. She recognizes Hawkeye which prompts Jack to lower his sword. All four talk over tea at the table where Kate tries to explain that she is helping Clint with a case. Afterward, Eleanor pleads with Clint to forget whatever case it is he’s into. Clint refuses but assures her that Kate will be safe.
Laura calls Clint to inform him that Jack is the CEO of Sloan. Not only that, he’s laundering money to somebody Clint refers to as “The Big Guy”. Laura then strangely asks Clint in German if anything else was missing, namely a Rolex watch.
That night, Clint and Kate strategize while watching Christmas movies. Clint informs Kate that Jack is the CEO of a company that had ties to the Tracksuit Mafia. Kate realizes that Clint became the Ronin when he lost his family in The Blip. The two plan to recover the trick arrows lost in the last episode.
Clint tracks down Kazi while Kate meets with the LARPers. He tells Kazi that Maya’s thirst for revenge will get her killed. When he returns home he finds Kate has welcomed the LARPers in to help make new costumes and give Clint back the arrows.
Later, Clint and Kate scope out an apartment where Clint believes the missing Rolex watch has been hidden. He tells Kate that the watch belongs to a colleague who has since retired. Kate takes it upon herself to get into the apartment. When she finds the watch, she also finds notes on Clint’s family. Before she can escape, she is jumped by Maya herself. Clint is also attacked by another female assassin… Yelena Belova herself! After the skirmish, Clint warns Kate to get out of this and to go home.
MAJOR QUESTIONS
- So whose watch is it anyway?
- Who is The Big Guy?
- Is Jack still the villain? Or is he oblivious to his company’s shady dealings?
- Is Laura somebody we may know from the comics?
OVERALL GRADE: B+
This may arguably be the weakest of the episodes, but it was still pretty darn good. There are several ways the show can still go depending on whomever The Big Guy is.
As far as the watch goes, it’s pretty clear it belongs to someone important. We got a Kingpin tease in the last episode and he certainly seems like somebody who would wear an expensive watch.
It’s also possible that the watch is Laura’s. Clint mentioned that it belongs to somebody who he used to work for but is now retired. In the comics, Hawkeye was married to Bobbie Morse, aka Mockingbird. Laura could be the alias adopted upon retiring from SHIELD.
We have two more episodes to go so it will be interesting to see how they wrap everything up in the final act.
