Marvel Cosmic Invasion Retro-Arcade Video Game Announced

If you remember the 1990s, you probably remember the popular side-scrolling “Beat-‘Em-Up” genre of arcade games. Thankfully, that genre lives on even in this modern age of immersive open-world style games.

Cosmic Invasion, set for release later this year, is a tribute to those token-munching arcade games of old. Players can control Captain America, Spider-Man, Wolverine (in his 80s brown costume), Storm, Nova, and Venom and battle several recognizable enemies, including AIM agents, Sentinels, and Arthrosian hordes.

Developed by Dotemu, who also made TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, the game has the vibe of those side-scrollers of the past. Marvel is no stranger to the genre. They had the excellent X-Men 6-Player monstrosity, as well as the Captain America and the Avengers coin-op in the early 90s.

Here is the official synopsis:

After Annihilus has launched an unprecedented attack across the galaxy, all life hangs in the balance. Nova, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Phyla-Vell, Captain America, and many more heroes, both earth-born and cosmic, will join forces in a star-spanning brawling adventure against the deadly Annihilation Wave.

No specific release date is given, but the trailer does say coming in 2025.
