SPOILER WARNING! The following contains slight spoilers for Skeleton Crew Episode 7! Do not proceed if you wish to avoid spoilers!
MAJOR POINTS
- The pirates have made it to At Attin
- Jod forced the kids to go along with his plan by threatening their parents
- Jod killed Brutus and reclaimed his pirate captain status
The opening stinger was like a scene straight out of E.T.. The families secretly gathered in a forest to send a message out into space in hopes their children would find it. Security droids intervene and stun them before Fara launches the message.
Meanwhile, the pirates arrive in orbit over At Attin. Brutus sees The Barrier and suspects it to be a trick. He repeatedly orders his crewmates to execute Jod. The kids arrive just before Jod’s execution, enabling Jod to talk his way out of being executed.
The pirates capture The Onyx Cinder with a tractor beam. Brutus demands the crew surrender but is caught in a mechanical claw operated by KB from within the ship. Jod takes the opportunity to shoot Brutus dead and reclaim his spot as Captain. He boards The Cinder and sees the message sent from the kids’ families.
Fern convinces 33 to chase away the pirates, allowing the kids to escape in The Cinder. However, Jod sneaks on board and beheads 33 with the lightsaber. He then orders the kids to play along with his charade that he is a Republic Emmisionary.
Security droids escort Jod to one of the mints. He laughs maniacally as he showers himself with credits. Finally, the kids are reunited with their family. However, the scene with Jod igniting his lightsaber implies that the reunion won’t last long.
MAJOR QUESTIONS
- Will we ever see The Supervisor?
- Will Jod stay with the pirates? Or perhaps double-cross everybody and try to keep the loot for himself?
- Could we see Jod killed off?
OVERALL GRADE: B+
Another Very Good to Great episode. I may be way off, but I can’t help but think that the legendary pirate Rennod is behind The Supervisor in some capacity. Not that he is alive, but perhaps he set up the mechanics of At Attin and created The Barrier so nobody could find his treasure. After all, that’s what a pirate does. He keeps people from finding his treasure even after his death. It’s also possible that this is a Wizard Of Oz scenario where The Supervisor is a fraud.
Viewers are genuinely hating Jod, and I mean that in a good way. He comes across as a character with no redeeming qualities besides keeping himself alive. Some people expect a redemption story but I’m not so sure that’s the way to go. We may see him “die” in self-sacrifice, only to find out he tricked everybody and escaped with a sizable stash of credits.
