Skeleton Crew Episode 8 “The Real Good Guys” Review

This is it! The season finale! Will Jod have a redemption story? Is The Supervisor connected to Tak Rennod? There’s only one way to find out!

SPOILER WARNING! The following contains slight spoilers for Skeleton Crew Episode 8! Do not proceed if you wish to avoid spoilers!

MAJOR POINTS

  • Jod did NOT have a redemption story
  • The Supervisor turned out to be a giant droid
  • The barrier is gone, making At Attin easily accessible to the rest of the galaxy

Jod poses as a Republic Emissary and orders the kids confined to their quarters with the exception of Fern and Fara, who accompany him to see The Supervisor. However, The Supervisor immediately suspects Jod is a fraud, as the last transmission from The Republic stated that all Jedi were branded traitors. Before the security droids can stun Jod, he destroys The Supervisor with the old “lightsaber to the robotic eye” move. This shuts down not only The Supervisor, but all security droids and all the power to the city, if not the entire planet. Jod then orders the pirate invasion to begin.

The rest of the kids band together on their hoverbikes save the day. KB flies the Onyx Cinder past the barrier and calls Kh’ymm to alert the New Republic. Fern and Wim convince their parents to drop the barrier, enabling the X-Wings and B-Wings to swoop in and take down the pirate ship. Jod stares longingly as the ship crashes in a nearby river.

As the families regroup, Wim looks up to the sky and smiles at all the ships in the sky, hinting that his new dream is to join the New Republic fleet.

MAJOR QUESTIONS

  • What will happen to At Attin now that The New Republic knows about it?
  • Who set up At Attin in the first place? Who created The Supervisor?
  • What the heck will happen to Jod and the pirates?

OVERALL GRADE: B

The episode itself was very entertaining, but not so much as a finale as it left several unanswered questions. Presumably all the pirates will be arrested, but then what? These may well be questions for a second season but after The Acolyte debacle, I’m not so confident this show will be seen by enough people to warrant a second season. But that’s something to be elaborated on in the podcast review.
