The Acolyte rolls on with its second episode. Will we see more of the bad guys? Are there other Jedi heads on the chopping block?
SPOILER WARNING! The following contains spoilers for The Acolyte Episode 2 “Revenge/Justice!” Do not proceed if you wish to avoid spoilers!
MAJOR POINTS
- Mae makes a second Jedi kill himself
- She has an accomplice who may or may not be a student of the same master
- We got our first live-action Wookiee Jedi
Mae tries to kill Jedi Master Torbin but can’t break the forcefield barrier he created during his meditation. She meets with her accomplice, Qimir who mixes poison for her. She returns to Torbin… who willingly takes the poison and kills himself.
Sol, Osha, and Yord track Mae to the planet Olega. Osha gets another vision of Mae and follows it to the crime scene. The other Jedi arrive to see Osha with the body and the murder weapon. Thankfully, Yord follows her and vouches for her innocence.
Osha impersonates Mae to get information from Qimir. She learns that Mae is after two more Jedi: Sol, and a Wookiee Jedi named Kelnacca. Mae fights Sol but again fails to land any blows. Osha fires a few stun blasts at her sister but misses and Mae escapes.
The last scene is on Khofar, where Kelnacca uses The Force to chase away some would-be pirates.
MAJOR QUESTIONS
- Would the master know whether Mae used weapons or not? Most Force-Users can sense lies.
- What is Qimir’s plan? He seems to be playing both sides
- Why would Torbin meditate for 10 years only to kill himself?
FINAL GRADE: C+
So far, so good. I like Sol’s character because he reminds me a bit of Qui-Gon Jinn. He’s a Jedi who doesn’t like the bureaucracy and unnecessary rules so many insist on using. It will be interesting to see if he survives the season.
I am not sold on the whole evil-twin gimmick yet. I suspect both twins know more than they may be letting on and this could be a double-turn, if not a complete ruse.
