The Acolyte Episode 4: “Day” Review

We don’t need to go into the poodoo that was last week’s episode. Will we see some Wookiee Jedi but-kicking? Will we see Darth Toothygrin? There’s only one way to find out!

SPOILER WARNING! The following contains spoilers for The Acolyte Episode 4 “Day!” Do not proceed if you wish to avoid spoilers!

MAJOR POINTS

  • Kelnacca is dead, likely killed by Darth Toothygrin
  • Mae has second thoughts about being evil and says she will turn herself in
  • The Jedi came face to face with Darth Toothygrin in the cliffhanger ending
  • Ki-Adi-Mundi is somehow alive and part of this story

Mae and Qimir arrive on Khofar, which still looks like Brendok to kill Kenacca. They discuss how to kill a Wookiee without a weapon.

Meanwhile Jedi on Coruscant (including Ki-Adi-Mundi, who wasn’t even born yet) study Mae on hologram video. They want to learn who trained her, but Venestra demands they keep this a secret from the Jedi High Council. Sol pleads with her to be the one to bring Mae in. He convinces Osha to accompany him on the mission. While en route, they learn nobody has heard from him in over a year. When they arrive, Sol senses that Kelnacca is in the forest.

Mae and Qimir stop to rest. She tells him that killing a Jedi without a weapon is impossible. Qimir leaves her to fetch water but gets caught in a leg trap. Mae decides to turn herself in to Kelnacca and leaves him tangled up. She arrives at Kelnacca’s home, only to find him dead via lightsaber.

The Jedi arrive outside and demand Mae surrender. However, Darth Toothygrin levitates down behind Osha and ignites a red lightsaber. The other Jedi ignite theirs but get tossed away by a massive Force Push.

MAJOR QUESTIONS

  • Why did Mae wait until they arrived on the planet to have her change of heart?
  • How did Sol not sense Kelnacca’s death?
  • Why the heck wouldn’t the Jedi at least tell Yoda that there is a Jedi Killer on the loose?

FINAL GRADE: C

This was better than the previous episode but that’s not saying much. The characters are still morons who don’t at least recognize obvious details. I still think Osha and Mae are in cahoots and either have or will switch places at some point. It’s also looking like Qimir’s ineptness is a ruse and he is actually Darth Toothygrin.

I’ll have more to say on the podcast review, but WHY is Ki-Adi-Mundi part of this show? According to official canon he wasn’t born yet? And this is without getting into him being the one to say “The Sith have been extinct for millennia.”
