Geekville #350: Superman Legacy Gets New Title, Bad Batch Episode 5

Superman has no legacy in its title, and we take a look at this week’s episode of The Bad Batch!

1:00 – Superman: Legacy changes name

James Gunn revealed two things on his Leap Year Instagram post: That his highly anticipated Superman film is officially filming, and that the name has been shortened to simply Superman.

The film, previously titled Superman: Legacy, is the official launch of the rebooted DCU on the big-screen.

5:30 – Bad Batch Season 3 Episode 5 Review

MAJOR POINTS

  • Crosshair is back in is regular armor
  • Hunter initially didn’t trust Crosshair, but seemed to get past that by the show’s end.
  • The team had to fend off the obligatory giant ice monster

Omega wakes up to sunlight for the first time in ages. First time she’s been outside in peace, let alone in sunlight. Echo and Rex return. At breakfast, Omega talks about life at Mount Tantiss and how The Empire is experimenting on clones. She still has Nala’s datapad, but it is encrypted. If they could access the pad, it could give them the coordinates they need to free the rest of the clones.

Wrecker gives Crosshair back his old armor. Crosshair also is developing a twitchy hand, which will almost assuredly make his life as a sharpshooter difficult.

Crosshair convinces the team to go to the planet from The Outpost episode last season, since he knows it’s all but abandoned now, and they could bypass the encryption by plugging it into a terminal.

When the team arrives, a bird symbolizing a vulture is seen overhead. Hunter presses Crosshair for anything he isn’t telling them. Crosshair finally reveals the Imperial Officer that he killed. This seems to be enough to convince Hunter that Crosshair is no longer with The Empire

While the team is able to plug the datapad in and get, well… data, a huge ice beast appears, and we get our obligatory giant monster fight. In the end, the team fends off the creature by turning the perimeter sensors back on to drive the beast away. Similar to invisible fencing. In the final moments of the episode, Crosshair and Hunter make their peace, and we once again see the ominous vulture in the distance

MAJOR QUESTIONS

  • Will the team try to free the rest of the clones? And if so, could they lead a clone revolt?
  • Given vultures tend to be connected to imminent death, does this mean Crosshair’s time is near?
  • Will Nala be executed? Tortured?

FINAL GRADE: B+

This was more of a standalone story, but it did have its connections to the larger picture. Of course, returning to Barton IV is welcome because it harkened back to that great episode The Outpost.
