Examining The Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Trailer

The Monsterverse continues with its latest installment, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. This sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong presumably picks up shortly after the previous film left off. The highly anticipated trailer introduces an all-new original villain to the Monsterverse.

When we watched this trailer, we knew we had to do what any self-serving geek podcast had to do. Overanalyze and overthink every detail and form our own narrative of what the story will be!

The desert — **A giant creature burrowing its way to the surface of Egypt.**

**Oh crap, it’s one of Michael Bay’s Transformers…**

**The dinosaurs living within the Hollow Earth.**

**Humans chase follow through the Hollow Earth.**

**Well, the rumored original title was “Son Of Kong”.**

**Presumably the markings of the villain, whose name is said to be Scar King**

**Kong finds an underworld under the underworld he already lives in.**

**A mass of presumably giant gorillas in forced labor**

**The obligatory slow-motion action shot that’s in just about every movie trailer.**

**An unknown human, perhaps a deity or leader, making her way through the underworld civilization.**

**Several human natives gather before a structure. A shrine or mountain perhaps?**

**Whatever this structure is, it certainly looks to be big.**

**A frozen Godzilla beneath the surface**

**Godzilla is freed from his ice captivity.**

**Godzilla achieves a new Monster Level, so he changes color.**

**Scar King presumably sitting on his throne.**

**A look from behind Scar King to show how massive he really is.**

**Godzilla and Kong dashing into battle like comrades.**

All kidding and sarcasm aside, It looks like Scar King will be the ruler of this Hollow Earth Underworld. Presumably, Kong will stumble across this “New Empire” and will probably get his clock cleaned (and his hand broken) trying to stand up to it.

Meanwhile, Godzilla will be lured and entrapped in ice, similar to how he was in Godzilla Raids Again. After making the power glove to heal Kong’s hand, they realize that only Godzilla can help Kong defeat this monstrous foe. Cue the massively expensive and complex battle in the third act and you have what will hopefully be another exciting entry into The Monsterverse.
