Today we look at late-breaking news on X-Men ’97, a name change for the Agatha Harkness series (AGAIN?!?!), and review the mid-season finale of The Bad Batch!
1:35 – X-Men ’97 Showrunner Fired
Beau DeMayo, showrunner for the upcoming X-Men ’97 series, has been fired by Marvel. The split happened sometime last week with his Marvel email account getting deactivated. No reason has been publicly given, but it is very unusual for somebody to leave a company right before an anticipated project debuts. DeMayo also worked on the live-action Moon Knight series and the upcoming Blade reboot.
4:35 – It’s Just Agatha Now
Marvel Studios has again changed the name for the upcoming Agatha Harkness series. Now it is just called Agatha, after going through the names (in no particular order: Agatha: House of Harkness, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries, and Agatha: Coven Of Chaos. Originally announced in 2022 after the character’s debut in WandaVision, the series is set to drop later this year.
7:35 – Bad Batch Mid-Season Finale
SPOILER WARNING! The following contains spoilers for The Bad Batch Season 3 Episodes 6 and 7! Do not proceed if you wish to avoid spoilers!
MAJOR POINTS
- Rex and Senator Chuchi are forming an underground clone alliance
- The Empire sent an assassin clone to kill Senator Singh
- Commander Wolff saw Rex for the first time since the war ended, which may lead to him defecting from The Empire
MAJOR QUESTIONS
- How much more does Crosshair know? Could he be planted with another chip?
- How many more assassin clones are there?
- What will happen to Wolff? Will his stormtroopers report that he let Rex and Omega go? Will Wolff stand against The Empire?
FINAL GRADE: A
This two-parter had enough action to cover this half of the season. It was pretty much pedal to the floor in the second half. We got to see what these assassin clones were capable of, including killing their own if need be
There were a lot of callbacks to previous seasons of both Bad Batch and Clone Wars. It will also be interesting to see whether the news will get back to The Empire that Wolff let the targets escape. We do know that Rex and Wolff are old retired war buddies during the events of Rebels, so we know he doesn’t die.
