The Bad Batch Finale “The Calvary Has Arrived” Review

Well, it’s over folks! The Bad Batch ended with a bang.

SPOILER WARNING! The following contains spoilers for The Bad Batch Episode The Calvary Has Arrived!” Do not proceed if you wish to avoid spoilers!

MAJOR POINTS

  • The children free the Zillo Beast
  • Dr. Karr and the heroes freed the other trapped clones and led them in a revolt against The Empire
  • Dr. Hemlock died a perfect action movie villain death, as did Clone-X
  • Governor Tarkin shut down Mount Tantiss and redirected funding to The Death Star

Hemlock gloats to Rampart that Project Necromancer has made him indispensable. Omega and the kids subdue Dr. Scalder and free the Zillo Beast, which rampages. The team sneaks into the base, despite Crosshair wanting to do it alone. Hemlock activates the rest of his super-troopers, who subdue the heroes and cut off Crosshair’s right hand (Hey, it’s Star Wars. Somebody’s losing a hand). He then tries to brainwash them like he previously did to Crosshair. Echo and Omega stay behind while Karr flies the rest of the kids to safety.

Once the clones are freed, they agree to one last fight. However, Rampart runs off and finds Nala Se in the central lab. He shoots her, thinking he can use the Project Necromancer data as a bargaining chip against The Empire. But Nala was held a thermal detonator, which goes off, destroying her, Rampart, and all the data on Project Necromancer. Hemlock tries to gas the revolting clones, but the team stops him after the lab explosion cuts off power. Hemlock handcuffs himself to Omega to make his escape in the rain. However, Hunter and Crosshair team up and shoot him off the bridge. The team makes their escape at the same time Tarkin makes his entrance. He looks over the destruction of Tantiss and orders all funding to be transferred to Project Stardust, which we all know is The Death Star.

The epilogue sees an adult Omega saying goodbye to an aging Hunter as she leaves to join The Rebellion. Hunter says to call them if she needs them…

MAJOR QUESTIONS

  • Is Omega going to pop up again?
  • Does any of Tarkin’s inner circle know what Project Stardust is?
  • Where the heck is the Zillo Beast?

FINAL GRADE: A

Now THAT was a finale. Sure, I could nitpick here and there over a few things, but they tied up all the loose ends and gave a suitable sendoff for the characters. I expected some, if not all, of the heroes to die. Especially Crosshair. But since they all made it we may see more of them in the future.

I was glad that we DIDN’T get Echo as Clone-X. Not only would that have been a worn-out trope, it wouldn’t have made sense. Why erase the main skill a soldier has and beef up the other skills he didn’t have?

I’m assuming the epilogue was sometime after The Battle of Yavin. I would be surprised if we don’t see Omega featured in a later show or film. The Mandalorian and Grogu perhaps? I also selfishly want to see her meet Boba Fett because “Omega Fett” is such a cool-sounding name.
