SPOILER WARNING! The following contains spoilers for The Bad Batch Episode Identity Crisis! Do not proceed if you wish to avoid spoilers!
MAJOR POINTS
- Dr. Karr has replaced Nala Se and is now second-guessing her loyalty
- Cad Bane has been procuring Force-Sensitive younglings for The Empire
Dr. Hemlock imprisoned Nala Se for her assistance in Omega’s escape. Dr. Karr asks him to be her replacement. Hemlock reluctantly agrees and takes her to the Project Necromancer labs. Upon seeing that the subjects are all children, Dr. Karr asks why. Hemlock explains that children are more susceptible to coercion and thus are better subjects. This troubles Dr. Karr since she did not know the main subjects were younglings.
Cad Bane captures a young alien and alerts The Empire. Dr. Karr wishes to accompany the Imperial commandoes to get the new subject. Again, she is horrified to see the new subject is another child.
One of the children tries to escape but is stunned by the Imperial commandoes. Karr scolds the soldier for using blasters but the soldier explains it is protocol. One of the children accuses Karr of lying about why they are here. Karr sadly walks away without saying anything, but later leaves one of Omega’s stuffed animals as comfort. A sign that she is sympathetic to them.
MAJOR QUESTIONS
- How long before Hemlock interferes with Karr? And if he gets rid of her, who will he replace her with?
- Has Ventress ever captured a child for The Empire?
FINAL GRADE: B
There wasn’t much action here, and the story can be summarized in a sentence or two, but it added weight to the overall story. Karr did not know what the experiments were all about. Now that she does, she’s conflicted with what to do. This also lends credence to the theory that Karr is the mother of Dr. Pershing from The Mandalorian.
